Mesothelioma cancer is a cancer that develops in the mesothelium tissues. The mesothelium is usually the name of the tissue that forms lining of different organs like heart, lungs, abdomen and genitals. Lining the abdominal organs is known as the peritoneal membrane. Lining around the lungs called the pleural membrane lining the heart called the pericardium.

These linings have two functions. They protect the internal organs by producing a lubricating fluid and to allow smooth movement of internal organs. Mesothelioma cancers are the cancers affecting these membranes. Mesothelioma is a form of cancer.

The mesothelium is a membrane that forms the lining of several body cavities: the hard sac, abdominal cavity and thoracal cavity. Internal reproductive organs of the male and female bodies are also surrounded by mesothelium tissue.Mesothelium is composed of two layered cells and develops into a layer of cells that covers and protects most of the body’s internal organs.

Cancer in the mesothelium is called mesothelioma. The cells of the mesothelium become abnormal and devide without control or order. They can invade or damage other surrounding tissue and organs. The cancer cells can spread to other parts of the body.
