The companies in the 70s have lied and ensured they do not have to face asbestos exposure lawsuits. But the fact remains that by the 90s many manufacturers of these companies were going to of business due to the lawsuits. The US government has established certain norms that restricts the use of asbestos and/or strictly puts processes in place where the manufacturing company has to clearly spell out the danger levels. In fact in some countries like in the EU, the government are in the process of banning asbestos use.
