Another study is called, “Inhibition of mesothelioma cell growth in vitro by doxycycline” Presented at a symposium at the national meeting of the American College of Chest Physicians, Chicago, IL, November 1999. Volume 138, Issue 2, Pages 101-106 (August 2001).  Here is an excerpt: “Abstract – Malignant mesothelioma causes profound morbidity and nearly universal mortality that is often refractory to conventional treatment modalities of aggressive surgery, radiotherapy, or chemotherapy. Doxycycline, a commonly used antibiotic, has anti ...Read More

One interesting study is called, Effects of glycosaminoglycans on proliferation of epithelial and fibroblast human malignant mesothelioma cells: a structurefunction relationship by Christopher Potten, Zbigniew Darzynkiewicz, Kohsuke Sasaki, A. Syrokou, G. Tzanakakis, T. Tsegenidis, A. Hjerpe, N. K. Karamanos – Cell Proliferation Volume 32, Issue 2-3, pages 8599, April 1999. Here is an excerpt: Abstract. Proteoglycans interact with other effective macromolecules regulating a variety of cellular events via their glycosaminoglycan (GAG) chains. The effects of all known glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) produced by normal cells and tissues on the proliferation of two human malignant mesothelioma cell lines, one with fibroblast-like morphology and the other with epithelial differentiation both able to produce hyaluronan (HA), galactosaminoglycans (GalAGs) and heparan sulphate (HS) containing p ...Read More

Trade Show 101

July 3rd, 2011 by ajmal | No Comments | Filed in Mesothelioma Causes

A trade show is generally industry specific and set up by companies or organizations in order to promote their products and services, reach new customers and generate new sales. They also give visitors the opportunity to find out about the products and services on display. They can be private (by invitation only) or open to the public.

Trade shows can also provide business people with the opportunity to network and make useful contacts with other people working in their industry.

Trade shows can be an important promotional tool for your business if you use them properly and maximize their potential. If you do not use trade shows effectively you run the risk of wasting a great deal of time, effort and money. Make your goals specific and measurable – for example is it the intention to sell products directly from a stand or concentrate on new sales leads’.

One interesting study is called, Absence of SV40 large T-antigen expression in human mesothelioma cell lines. By Pilatte Y, Vivo C, Renier A, Kheuang L, Greffard A, Jaurand MC – Am J Respir Cell Mol Biol. 2000 Dec;23 (6):788-93. – INSERM, Crteil, France. Here is an excerpt: Abstract – Simian virus (SV) 40 and SV40-like DNA sequences have recently been detected in several types of human tumors, including malignant mesothelioma. However, the presence of SV40 DNA sequences is not sufficient to account for its possible role in tumor development because the viral proteins must be expressed and ultimately impair the function of relevant cell proteins, such as p53 and pRb. In this study we investigated SV40 large T antigen (SV40 Tag) protein expression in mesothelioma cell lines, established in our laboratory, by Western blotting, immunoprecipitation, and immunocytochemistry ...Read More

Public Health Implications of Bromate in Botled Water

November 1st, 2010 by ajmal | No Comments | Filed in Mesothelioma Causes

Article by Dr Deryck D. Pattron, Ph.D.

IntroductionBottled water containing bromate up to two-and-a-half times the level considered safe by the US Food and Drug Administration has been detected and removed from shelves in some supermarkets in the US. It is believed that long term exposure to bromate may increase the risk of cancer in susceptible individuals. These include women of child bearing age, young children, pregnant, immunocompromised persons and aged individuals.

How is bromate formed in bottled water?Bromide is a normal constituent of bottled water. Depending on the source of water the level of bromide may fluctuate, that is, will be higher or lower depending on where it is found. Bromate is formed when bromide ions and ozone react together. The level of bromate that may form in water depends on the concentration of bromide in the source water, the amount of ozo ...Read More
