Mesothelioma Summary
Mesothelioma is among the one of the rare known cancers of the human body that primarily affects the lungs. But it can also affect the other body parts as well such a covering around the heard commonly know as Pericardium, and the covering of the abdominal contents know as Peritoneum.
Mesothelioma is a malignant cancer of mesothelial cells. Mesothelioma is characterized by excessive collection of fluid within the organ it affects e.g.,
* In lungs this fluid is called Pleural Fluid.
* In Heart this is known as Pericardial Fluid.
* In Abdomen this fluid is called Peritoneal Fluid.
The Symptoms of mesothelioma are not quite unique to the disease itself, but the symptoms are quite the same as other common medical conditions such as cough, abdominal pain and distention.
Diagnosis of mesothelioma usually occurs late in life and which is the most important aspect in poor prognosis of this disease.
